PRIVATE ADHD ASSESSMENTS
IN LONDON

Psyche Clinic offers comprehensive private ADHD assessments for adults in London, conducted by consultant psychiatrists at our clinic on Harley Street. Our assessments follow current NICE guidelines and are suitable for individuals seeking a formal diagnosis, a second clinical opinion, or clarification following an inconclusive assessment elsewhere.

We provide detailed written reports, differential diagnosis, and direct access to follow-up care including medication management and evidence-based psychological therapy. Appointments are available in person at 10 Harley Street and via secure video call. We accept self-referrals and do not require a GP referral to book.

WHY CHOOSE A PRIVATE ADHD ASSESSMENT IN LONDON?

NHS waiting times for adult ADHD assessment in England currently exceed two years in many areas, with some regions reporting waits of three years or more. For adults whose difficulties are significantly affecting their occupational functioning, relationships, or mental health, this delay can have material consequences.

A private ADHD assessment at Psyche Clinic offers:

  • Prompt access to assessment, typically within days to weeks of referral

  • A full assessment conducted by a consultant psychiatrist with specialist expertise in adult neurodevelopmental conditions

  • A comprehensive written report suitable for employers, educational institutions, or your GP

  • Direct access to follow-up care, including medication initiation and management, and evidence-based psychological therapy

  • Recognition by all major private medical insurance providers

We recommend that prospective patients contact their insurer in advance to confirm the extent of their coverage.

WHO IS THIS ASSESSMENT FOR?

Our private ADHD assessments are designed for adults aged 18 and above who are seeking a formal clinical assessment for ADHD. A GP referral is not required, although we are willing to liaise with your GP and to share reports with your registered practice.

An assessment may be clinically indicated if you experience persistent difficulties in the following areas:

  • Sustained attention, particularly on tasks requiring prolonged mental effort

  • Organisation, time management, and task completion

  • Impulse control or emotional regulation

  • Restlessness or an inability to remain still in situations where this is expected

  • Consistently underperforming relative to measured ability across educational or occupational settings

ADHD in adults presents differently from the diagnostic criteria as observed in children. Inattentive presentations, which are more prevalent in women and frequently go unidentified until adulthood, may not include pronounced hyperactivity. Symptoms may instead manifest as chronic disorganisation, difficulty initiating tasks, sensitivity to rejection, or a longstanding pattern of underachievement. Our clinicians are trained to assess across the full range of presentations, including combined-type and inattentive-type ADHD.

We also assess individuals who have received a prior ADHD diagnosis elsewhere and are seeking a second opinion, or who require a formal assessment report for occupational, academic, or legal purposes.

WHATS INCLUDED IN YOUR ASSESSMENT?

Our ADHD assessments are conducted in accordance with NICE guideline NG87 (2018) and adhere to the standards set out by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. All assessments are carried out by, or under the direct supervision of, a consultant psychiatrist.

Pre-Assessment Questionnaires

Prior to your appointment you will be asked to complete a set of validated self-report rating scales, including the Conners Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARS) and, where appropriate, the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS). We also request that a collateral informant, such as a partner, parent, or close colleague, completes a supplementary questionnaire. This supports a more comprehensive clinical picture and is consistent with current diagnostic standards.

Clinical Interview

The clinical interview lasts approximately 90 minutes. Your consultant psychiatrist will conduct a structured assessment covering developmental history, educational and occupational functioning, current symptom presentation, and relevant psychiatric and medical history. The interview will also explore the nature, onset, duration, and severity of symptoms across multiple domains of daily life.

Differential Diagnosis

ADHD shares symptomatic overlap with a number of other conditions, including generalised anxiety disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorder, sleep disorders, and thyroid dysfunction. Our clinicians conduct a systematic differential diagnosis to ensure that any conclusion reached is clinically supported. Where co-occurring conditions are identified, these will be documented in your report and addressed in the clinical recommendations.

Written Diagnostic Report

A comprehensive written report will be provided within five to ten working days of your assessment. The report will include a clinical formulation, a diagnosis or a clearly reasoned conclusion where ADHD is not confirmed, a summary of the differential diagnostic process, and recommendations for treatment or further investigation. The report is suitable for submission to employers, educational institutions, DVLA (where relevant), or your GP.

Follow-Up Appointment

A follow-up appointment is strongly recommended following receipt of your report. At this appointment, your clinician will review the findings with you in detail, address any questions, and, where appropriate, discuss and initiate a treatment plan. Treatment options may include pharmacological intervention, psychological therapy, or a combination of both.
