OUR ETHOS
The Meaning Behind Our Clinic’s Name: ‘Psyche’
In ancient Greek mythology, Psyche was a mortal woman whose beauty rivalled that of the goddess Aphrodite. She endured many trials to be reunited with her love, Eros (Cupid), and was ultimately granted immortality by the gods. The Greek word “psyche” (ψυχή) means both “soul” and “butterfly”. The butterfly became a metaphor for the soul, especially in ancient Greek and Roman art. Psyche being frequently portrayed as a beautiful young woman with delicate butterfly wings, emphasizing the ethereal nature of the human soul and mind which undergoes growth and transformation through various life experiences.
In modern psychology, the term refers to the human mind, encompassing both the conscious and unconscious aspects. It is the seat of emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, playing a crucial role in mental health and well-being.
By choosing Psyche as the name for our mental health clinic, we aim to evoke the rich symbolism of personal transformation, resilience, and the journey towards inner well-being. It reflects our commitment to understanding and nurturing the complex layers of the human mind and spirit.
