DR. LUCY STIRLING

BSc (Hons) DClinPsy

Dr Lucy Stirling is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with adults and young people. She works with people experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges, including worry, anxiety or obsessional disorders (e.g. OCD, BDD), depression, stress/burnout, emotional dysregulation and trauma or post-traumatic stress (PTSD). Lucy has extensive experience within the field of couple and family psychology, working with those adjusting to loss and change, managing interpersonal difficulties and navigating the challenges of parenting. She also has particular expertise in working with individuals, couples and families living with the psychological impact of acute and chronic health conditions, including somatoform disorders such as chronic fatigue or persistent pain.

Independent of mental health treatment, Lucy offers coaching with a psychological perspective, aimed at empowering individuals who may be facing challenges such as self-doubt, imposter syndrome, grappling with career decisions or difficulty achieving work/life balance. Lucy considers people within their individual genetic and environmental contexts, taking variations in neurological functioning into account and recognising that conditions such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can impact how people experience and interact with the world, presenting unique strengths and challenges.

She worked for over a decade within the National and Specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services, including N&S CAMHS Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Service at The Maudsley Hospital and N&S CAMHS Paediatric Liaison at King’s College Hospital (KCH). During her years at KCH, Lucy took up the role of Lead Psychologist working across paediatric liaison and a number of children’s units and services within the Variety Children’s Hospital at King’s. In 2007, alongside her career in the NHS, Lucy founded her own private practice, Vital Headspace Clinical Psychology. Through this work Lucy has developed a wide professional network and collaborates with psychiatrists, surgeons, and medical consultants from a range of specialities.

In 2019, Lucy made the transition out of the NHS and took up a role as Clinical Director within the health tech start-up HelloSelf. Lucy worked with the company for four years, helping the business to grow and achieve Series B funding. In 2023, Lucy turned her focus to expanding her own private practice, building a psychology collaborative with trusted colleagues, providing consultancy and training within organisations and increasing the time she could commit to therapy and specialist coaching. In addition, she took up a position on the Clinical and Scientific Advisory Board at digital health company Chiron. Here, Lucy develops psychologically informed self-care regimens as part of the business’s AI-driven breakthrough model for chronic disease management.

Outside of her work, Lucy’s long-standing interest in the mind-body connection led her to train and qualify as a Fitness Instructor, recognised by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) and The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). Lucy is a big advocate of the power of movement in enabling us to create better balance in our lives, and with that balance, more psychological freedom.
